About Dr. Tarek Elgawhary

Dr. Tarek Elgawhary is a scholar of Islam and comparative religions, with an academic background that bridges the Western and classical Islamic traditions, having studied at both Princeton University and al-Azhar Seminary.

He is the creator of the Making Sense of Islam platform, exploring the intersections of Islam, mindfulness, and everyday living, and the author of Rewriting Islamic Law, In Search of Mindfulness, and Invocations of the Siddiqiya-Shadhiliya Order.

Beyond teaching, Dr. Elgawhary is the CEO and co-founder of Coexist Corp., and serves as resident scholar at the Islamic Community Center of Potomac (ICCP) in the United States.

The Illumination Tour is a series of talks, lectures, and a workshop led by Dr. Tarek Elgawhary across various venues in Singapore from 6 to 9 November 2026. It runs alongside the Awakening Ihsan retreat and is open to the public.

They are two distinct programmes running across the same week, but they are designed to complement each other. The Awakening Ihsan retreat is the main two-day event, while the Illumination Tour features additional sessions surrounding it. You can attend one or both.

No. You are welcome to register for either programme independently. However, we highly recommend attending both for the full experience which is why we’ve put together the Full Retreat Pass at a combined price.

The Awakening Pass ($99 / $70 for students) — includes the Awakening Ihsan Spiritual Retreat, plus the two free public talks by Dr. Tarek Elgawhary.

The Illumination Pass ($49 / $30 for students) — includes the Ibn Ata’illah’s Al-Hikam workshop, plus the two free public talks by Dr. Tarek Elgawhary.

The Full Retreat Pass ($130 / $90 for students) — includes everything: the Awakening Ihsan Retreat, the Al-Hikam workshop, and both public talks.
